  • Creating A ColdWar Mod For N.F.S. HighStakes Pc game

About 3 years ago I started a mod for the PC game N.F.S. HighStakes and I noticed alot of old ColdWar era vehicles on various sites: Lada,Wartburg, and Zaz 965..So I decided to make ColdWar era police vehicles of these.:

VolksPolizei,МИ/\ИЦИЯ,VerejnaBezpecnost,etc. Included in the mod is the countries of.:

D.D.R.,Poland,Czechoslavakia,Hungary,Romania,U.S.S.R.,and Bulgaria, What initally started as a police vehicles mod has grew to include representations of these actual locales.

That said I need you natives from Bulgaria to review my People'sMilitia police vehicles to see how accurate they are and if I need to do any changes.

    Here is the pics.:

    KAT Traffic police

Does these look right ro need changed in anyway?

Also I found some older vehicles (Lada 2101 and Volga M24) in a old TV show Blue Light (СИНЯТА ЛАМПА) Thanks to a Bulgarian friend of mine linking me to them on YouTube, Now on these old shows it looks like the patrol vehicles was red with blue stripes though I can't tell since the series is Black&White..Color pics of these older vehicles would be greatly appriacted as I have none.

Hi. This looks like great work. Kudos for that

The yellow one is the one that makes more sense. I am sure the blue one did exist as well, but was seen less.

КАТ - Контрол на Авто Транспорта (Automotive Transportation Control) was the road police. They dealt with purely driver's / road issues.

Народна Милиция (People's Militia/Police) was the Police (including criminal) itself.

In any event, the police vehicles, at least in the capital (those are the ones I remember) were more often than not Vaz 2101 (google-able as "Zhiguli", pronounced "ji - goo - ly" and written жигули). In the mid and late eighties, they switched to the Lada 2105. Both used 1300cc engines. The Lada 1500 (not "S") was also used a lot. It has cosmetical differences with the 1500s.

I have seen very few of the ones you show. Those are Lada 1500s / 1600 and were seen less.

Legends went around that some of these vehicles had special engines, I don't know much how true it was. The Ladas with a 1500/1600cc engine were the top of the food chain as far as speed and acceleration goes in the local car landscape, so pretty much anything/everything could be intercepted with those.

There were foreign/faster cars here and there, but usually if one of those would skip a police stop - it was either that the police knew who the owner was anyway, or that the owner knew who the policemen's boss was anyway. There were also a handful of sports car in the country, but those were so scarce that should a driver skip a police stop - he'd have a welcome commitee expecting him at his home address

Here's a thread in our forum where random pictures of old "government" (anything not private was government owned and came with different plates) cars. Might be a few Militia cars there. Sift through it.

    http://www.offroad-bulgaria.com/show...EB%F3%E6%E1%E0

Also, if you want to google for pictures - here's the sentences to use un Bulgarian. Just copy and paste:

    милиционерска лада
    милиционерска кола
    милиционерска жигула
    милиционерска жигулка
    милиционерска волга
    милиционерска газка

I'll put a message in Bulgarian as well so people who don't speak English can help. I'll translate.

PS: There was also the "white whale" - an old, beaten Mercedes C-107 (280SLC) in "Народна Милиция" colors (yellow with the blue stripes). It was usually the pace car for the upper government cavalcades. Upper government people were driven around in a flock of black Mercedes W126 (280SE), and this one was the militia vehicle assigned to them when driven in an official cavalcade.

Those were all handled by the УБО (Управление Безопасност и Охрана - Safety and Protection Directorate), which had its own garages, maintenance facilities and so on, as there were no official dealers in the country for obvious reasons.

So if there is a gradation in your game - in a pursuit you'd be first followed by a yellow Zhiguli 2101, then maybe by a Lada 1500, then (and only if you manage to get in the way of the cavalcade) - you'd be chased by said mercedes coupe in HM color, plus an angry swarm of black unmarked Mercedes 280Se (with no plates) and a magnetic blue lamp on the roof. At this point, you are in very deep trouble

Човекът търси точни снимки (по възможност цветни) на милиционерски автомобили от преди 10ти ноември. И всякаква информация коя каква е, на кои служби, и по кое време е карана. Ако някой знае - пишете на български, ще превеждам.

I have also seen white ones with signs "Народна милиция".
In addition - there were at some places Polish FIATs (type in Google полски фиат). But those were generally without special signs and used by the Criminal Police and I think that the period was a short one – maybe for few years in the mid 80’s.
It is true that some Ladas were with slightly modified engines – for the purpose of increasing their cc’s from 1300/ 1500 to more cc’s. I personally had the experience of being a passenger in one or two such and they were (at least as per their spedometers) reaching some 200 km /h.
Last but not least – there were also Niva’s (whites, with signs and blue lamps) and UAZ 469 (in their original colour, with signs, I do not remember these having blue lamps).

Hi. The car I'm using is actually a Lada 2106 (I haven't found Lada 1500 released yet for this game but there is one from the Emregcny 4 PC game's D.D.R. mod that might work, it would need some work though as most vehicles in that game are shells..No windows and no insides to them.

I have a Lada 2107 as well but not 2105, But I think the 2 was the same car, Diffrences was 2105 had a black only grill and the 2107 had a chrome one and also 2107 was a V8 so it was faster.

I have 2101 too..I have found some old pics of those on Google and here as well:

Now I did see a toy car of the Militia that might be the color of these but the blue would have been much darker to look that black on the TV show.:

Now as for agressiveness of police in this game, N.F.S. HighStakes has 2 levels of police responce, If you outrun the road patrols (by game default BMW M5 police cars for European locales) they call out a faster police car to chase you and that is a Porsche 911 or Lamborghini Diablo..So it would only be possible to have 1 of these angry black no plates Mercedes respond.

I have a question. Did the KAT put white sheets over their hats? (I know most traffic police put white cloth sheets over their hat to show they was traffic police) Or did they just leave them as is.

That said based on my analysis of the police cars in Sinata Lampe I assume they'd have looked something like this (since when I converted my images to black&white it seemed to match what the cars look like in the show) this is what I came up with for the Lada 2101.:

I also created a KAT Lada 2101..Just like on the real one I went light crazy..It has Tesla AZD,2 small gumballs, and 2 red flashers too So many lights..I guess KAT couldn't get enough lights.:

The only thing is due to the way these cars is built it's impossible to make the stripes match exactly to photos or TV clips but they are close enough I think.

Both ways were possible (maybe depending on the years). For sure there was a period where white sleeves (in fact glove reaching to the elbow) were used too (I cannot find pics unfortunately). Few pics:

I have lots of time . So did I guess right on the color of the Lada 2101 from Sinata Lampe? I made some shots of mine in black&white and it almost matches the car from the show, Only problem was due to the way the model was built it's impossible to exactly copy the way they have the stripe lined up on the show car.:
